Standards lead the way
Better integrations and more rigorous adherence to data standards makes it easier for life sciences companies to run projects such as MES implementation, product traceability, process optimization and Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE). It also motivates them to embrace cloud connectivity to allow similar comparisons between lines, plants and divisions.
– Until now, any specific function in a pharma factory has demanded a heavily customized project, which requires bespoke validation. However, as we move to better integration and off-the-shelf standards, the need for customization drops. Much of this development is being driven by the need to leverage cloud resources, where standards are essential for scalability and repeatability, says Paul Clarke.
While fully integrated pharma production may still be years away, there are plenty of compelling arguments for life sciences companies to ensure better horizontal and vertical integration and implementing recognized data standards. Doing so is certainly a step in the right direction.
