Customer case
Biotech strengthens data foundation to scale innovation responsibly
A fast-growing biotech used NNIT’s Data Maturity Assessment to identify gaps, strengthen governance, and enable sustainable AI adoption.
Case in brief:
Challenge: Strong science but fragmented data practices limited collaboration, slowed regulatory work, and created uncertainty around AI.
Solution: NNIT delivered a life sciences–specific Data Maturity Assessment, revealing strengths, gaps, and priorities.
Benefit: Clear roadmap improved efficiency, collaboration, and AI readiness, giving leadership confidence in sustainable growth.
Lost opportunities to leverage research strengths
Despite strong scientific capabilities, the biotech faced fragmented data practices across functions. Teams often relied on manual, local processes, which reduced visibility, slowed regulatory submissions, and hindered collaboration. Uneven governance and inconsistent data quality created uncertainty around new technologies like AI, where pilots struggled with adoption and trust. Without a shared foundation for data management, the company risked inefficiencies and lost opportunities to fully leverage its research strengths.
A structured approach to data maturity
Together with the customer a Data Maturity Assessment (DMA) was conducted designed specifically for life sciences. The assessment captured insights across functions and disciplines, identifying strengths, gaps, and opportunities in five key areas: Data Culture, Data Operations, Technology Enablers, Data Capability, and Compliance & Ethics. Instead of abstract benchmarking, the DMA produced a pragmatic roadmap: quick wins such as aligned metadata standards and shared ownership structures, plus strategic initiatives like a data governance council, training programs, and scalable platforms. It also included an AI readiness check to clarify where advanced technologies could be responsibly scaled.
The DMA goes beyond benchmarking - it shows where data adds value today and what foundations need to be strengthened for tomorrow.

Driving tangible results
NNIT combined its life sciences–specific framework with deep consulting expertise to translate assessment findings into actionable priorities. Rather than generic advice, the DMA provided leadership with a clear baseline and practical roadmap for strengthening data culture, governance, and technology foundations. NNIT’s insights gave the client confidence to treat data as an enterprise-wide strategic asset - ensuring compliance, enabling collaboration, and paving the way for trustworthy, scalable AI.
