Customer case
Designing a Scalable SCADA Foundation for Multi-Line Operations
Standardized Ignition SCADA Line Management system enabling scalable, compliant multi-line manufacturing with improved traceability, integration, and efficiency.
Case in brief:
Challenge : Multiple new fill/finish lines required standardized design, integration, and compliant data handling across vendors
Solution: Modular Ignition SCADA Line Management System with defined interface and integration standards
Benefit: Scalable, traceable, multi-line platform with consistent reporting and vendor alignment
Scaling Without Standardization
The customer was deploying multiple new fill/finish lines but lacked a standardized Line Management framework. Different vendors, machine interfaces, and data sources created integration complexity and increased the risk of inconsistent implementations.
There was a clear need for aligned process flows, well-defined interfaces, and structured handling of recipes, batch reporting, and traceability. Without a unified design and governance model, achieving scalability, compliance with 21 CFR Part 11, and operational transparency across lines would be difficult ultimately raising project risk and long-term maintenance effort.
“Delivering a modern standardized SCADA solution ensuring higher levels of controls, accountability and efficiency gains in throughput and format changeovers for the client".
A Modular, Standards-Driven SCADA Architecture
A consultancy-led design phase established a comprehensive Ignition SCADA Line Management System. Through structured workshops, process flows, UI concepts, and functional requirements were defined. A modular architecture encapsulated functionality into reusable Ignition modules supported by PLC code standards.
Clear interface specifications ensured consistent integration across external vendors and machines. The system unified work orders, recipe management, audit trails, ingredient verification, vision systems, printers, pallet labelling, and machine data. In parallel, database schemas and reporting structures were designed to support batch reporting, full traceability, and seamless multi-source data integration.
Driving Standardization and Future Readiness
NNIT led the end-to-end design strategy, translating operational needs into a scalable, standards-based architecture. The team defined reusable modules, established vendor interface requirements, and ensured alignment with 21 CFR Part 11 expectations.
By delivering a generic multi-line solution design and a comprehensive URS, NNIT reduced implementation risk, ensured vendor consistency, and created a strong foundation for long-term maintainability and future expansion.
