Cloud Readiness: Take the right path to the cloud

Moving to the cloud requires thorough preparation. Before you take the first step on the journey, a Cloud-Readiness Analysis can clarify what makes sense to move to the cloud - and how.

Planning the transition from on-premise infrastructure to cloud is at least as important as the act itself. As with a real journey, you can reduce the risk of getting lost by looking at a map of the landscape and working out which route is best. It also pays off to consider whether to pack all your worldly possessions in the trunk, or whether you can manage with a thoughtfully packed backpack.

But above all, it is a great advantage if you choose an experienced travel companion who has been on the journey many times. Then you can plan the journey together and be well prepared for any obstacles that need to be overcome along the way. This is why a cloud-readiness analysis is always the first step on an NNIT Cloud Journey. It is here where we create the overview necessary to set the right course and reach your goal.

Have the basics in place

First of all, look at your cloud strategy - if you have one. Is it a cloud first, cloud last or cloud best approach that makes most sense for your organization? Together with NNIT cloud solutions architects, you review your existing on-premise infrastructure in detail. Then, based on your strategy, needs and existing solutions, you can assess which applications and workloads make sense to move into the cloud. Perhaps you are already using the cloud, in which case the new solutions must of course be implemented with the old ones in mind.

A shared understanding is most important

The most important benefit of your Cloud-Readiness Analysis is the shared understanding that falls into place during the work. Because when the analysis and strategy are in place, everyone involved has a full overview of where the starting and finishing lines are, and knows how to get from A to B. Now you are ready to move on to the enablement phase, where the solution must be built and implemented.

Here it may well be that the strategy changes along the way. Some obstacles or shortcuts can be difficult to predict until you are actually faced with them. But with a thorough analysis and a plan based on your business goals, it is easier to ensure that you reach the destination, even if the route does not quite turn out as planned.
