NNIT’s Graduate Programme was launched in October 2004, when 11 graduates started at the organisation. One of them was Thomas.
Having completed his studies at the IT University of Copenhagen, he was ready for a career in the IT sector: ‘I was looking for a graduate position where I could work with all the elements that make up an IT value chain. So NNIT’s job advertisement could have been addressed to me personally as it stressed that successful applicants would get to work in all the different parts of the organisation,’ he says.
During his time as a graduate Thomas spent six months at a time in one of NNIT’s development, operations and consultancy areas. This has given him a wide knowledge of the company and a broad network across the whole organisation for later use in the course of his career.
‘From the very first day I was expected to handle independent and demanding tasks on my own, which has given me a solid basis for the future. It also introduced me to a lot of new and inspiring people’, recalls Thomas.
Team-spirit
From the very first day, Thomas was assigned a personal coach, which helped support the personal development. During the graduate programme several team-building events took place which helped create a sense of team-spirit within the team of trainees.
Once the graduate programme came to and end in the spring of 2006, Thomas continued his career in a position as a management consultant in NNIT Business Consulting. He advises, among others, Novo Nordisk about future IT solutions. ‘It has meant a lot to me that I have been involved in creating my future position. At the same time, I have had the chance to sample many different areas of NNIT, which is a huge advantage in my present job,” explains Thomas.
In May 2006 the next team of graduates start in NNIT and Thomas has some advice to pass on: ‘Jump at the challenges, even if you don’t have much knowledge in the area of the task to begin with’, finishes Thomas.
