“At NNIT, our culture must be one in which it is okay to talk about the balance between work and family life.” That was the message after the 2002 employee satisfaction survey. In 2003, the Work Life Balance initiative got underway.
Work Life Balance is led by seven coaches, chosen with a mix of ages, gender and tasks at NNIT. Everyone in the team has been trained by, and has been supported by an experienced stress coach.
The basic premise is that all people have three lives – working life, private life and family life. A coach’s main task is to highlight the balance among these three lives.
Every employee at NNIT must get a chance to do something about stress and imbalance in the three lives – or at least to learn more. The coach can then provide tools and new ways to think, because preventing is better than curing.
A meeting with a coach can be a personal, informal conversation. Or it can take the form of a team meeting at which team members get a chance to discuss and focus on Work Life Balance.
