Jesper has a calling – IT security. He thinks, lives and executes IT security. And he burns for it. “Security never gets boring. It’s a lifestyle. There’s nothing called 100% security. You can only ever optimise it. I’ll never be finished doing it,” he says with passion in his eyes.
In other words, Jesper is an operations specialist. He grew up at NNIT. After starting as a computer specialist, he arrived eight years ago at Support in Måløv. Here he began helping users in distress. This gave him experience of customers, networks and servers. And it led to a position at eSolutions. Here they were looking for someone who could go just about anywhere to install Focus. Then the way was clear – Jesper became a systems specialist in IT security.
Jesper continually keeps his finger on the pulse, evaluating anything that could pose a real threat. And, once holes have been localised, he has to quickly find a patch and take care of its general roll-out, test plans and documentation. Because it’s not just about NNIT’s security, but also security for the likes of Novo Nordisk, Novozymes, Ferrosan, H.Lundbeck and others that have outsourced their server business to us.
The greatest challenge in Jesper’s role lies in combining the dynamic world of IT with the somewhat more static pharmaceutical world. “Not because it’s static, as such, but there are just so many rules and procedures that need to be complied with. It can certainly be tough when you’ve got a million things in your head that really should be done.”
To become a good IT security specialist, you have to like speaking with many different people. And you need to be careful, making sure that nothing is missed, because security is about finding and fixing holes. It demands a mind that can maintain an overview. “And it helps to be almost two meters tall and weigh over 100 kg as a security guard,” says Jesper with a twinkle in his eye.
Today, he has been at ITO for three years. “Actually, I don’t have any ambition to become a manager and have responsibility for staff, because I’ve only just scratched the surface. The good thing is that I know that if I suddenly wanted to, I could always go further at NNIT. Here you’re always taken seriously.”
